— Chega! Estou de partida! Nada a discutir! —
eu, tolo, exclamo. Mas você não argumenta.
Cansado, desta vez nem me censurar tenta,
nem ao menos me priva de vê-lo sorrir.

Você, há três anos, não foi muito compreensivo.
Com raiva olhou-me e acusou-me de pensar
somente em mim; hoje se põe em meu lugar
e apenas torce pra que eu continue vivo.

Estranho é que o seu apoio me atormente
bem mais que as falas em favor da Rebelião.
Preferiria que dissesse simplesmente

que nesses dias — meses? anos? — que virão
você me odiará por cada hora ausente,
a ter a sua indiferente compreensão.

foolishly, I exclaim. But you don't argue.
Tired, you don't even try to scold me,
not even deprive me of seeing your smile.

Three years ago, you weren't very understanding.
Angrily, you looked at me and accused me of thinking
of nothing but myself; today you put yourself in my place
and only hope I keep myself alive.

So strange that your support torments me
much more than the speeches in favour of the Rebellion.
I would rather hear you simply tell me

that in the days — months? years? — to come
you will hate me for every hour I'm absent,
than have your indifferent comprehension.
