Spend all
your time waiting
for that
second chance
for a
break that would make it okay
there's
always one reason
to feel
not good enough
and it's
hard at the end of the day
The cold hard truth slaps us with no remorse as the bitter hand of our wrongdoings faces us with the fact that we are sinners. We all must be punished yet why is there such a thing as persecution for the innocent? Must life be that way?
In the darkness surrounding an island of ice, the freezing wind and weather gave no sign of ever warming up. It had always been this way here - cold, empty and almost depressing like the inhabitants of this forsaken place. The people - all of them females - are born with frozen hearts and are guided by prejudice for beings not their own. They look at themselves in the mirror, smile wickedly and proclaim that they are the greatest race in all of the worlds as they bask in their beauty, purity and isolation. They feel as if they are creatures created by the hand of a highly goddess.
But then, there is a thing called defiance and there is bound to be one in every race. In this glacier, full of ice maidens - 'koorimes' - defiance had a name...and her name is Hina.
What had she done to be proclaimed as evil? What had she achieved that placed her in the list of traitors?
She had loved a man...and produced his children - the forbidden twins. One of ice and one of fire but both still a mixture of elements. She had tarnished the reputation of the koorimes by doing what in their opinion was the worst thing that an ice maiden could ever do. She loved and produced the fruits of that love.
A misty breath escaped a young woman as she sighed in the confines of her room - prison, as they called it but not really that - as they only watched her closely and did nothing else. This was not really a punishment and that fact only angered her as she was here, being watched and even cared for while her children were out on their own, not guided by parents - or even just a parent - that each child deserved. She was the one who had sinned yet why did her children have to suffer the consequences? Especially that little boy who had the eyes of his father, just like his twin sister. Why - as the infant of fire she had produced fought for his life at each passing day and hour, out there, on his own, unprotected and prone to cruelty - was she in here - her life wasted at the seconds of each day that was always full of guilt - not allowed to do anything?
The woman named Hina, mother of the forbidden children, lowered her gaze in shame as another night was passing through. In her mind and heart, they were torturing her by hurting her innocent children. In her soul, they were already burning her alive as hell had already pulled her at her death even as she still could breathe. In her eyes were tears as the floor was yet again covered with gems that all other creatures but herself found so enchanting and alluring. All she had now was guilt, pain and sadness and an anger for prejudice as they clawed at her skin even as it remained silky with its alabaster glow...her being full of sorrow. There was no second chances even as she longed for and waited for one. She had committed her sin and souls had to suffer...
She was the worst mother
of them all.
I need
some distraction
oh beautiful
release
memory
seeps from my veins
let me
be empty
and weightless
and maybe
I'll find
some peace tonight
Far away from the house where the traitor of the koorimes was kept, another woman wept as she sat at a soft and comfortable chair, her eyes never leaving a small and very young girl, her guilt overriding all other feelings. The memory of an infant's crimson-red eyes looking at her with innocence haunted her in her sleep and even from the girl that she cared for. The girl...the little innocent girl shared her brother's eyes, also full of innocence and sadness and she could do nothing to erase the dark tears that was constantly flowing from her heart's eyes.
All the pain that her best friend and the child she took care of felt was all because of her...because of that day...because of her cruelty to an innocent boy of fire...because she listened to the words of the elders and didn't even fight for the right of life...because at that day, she had caused the most cruel crime anyone had ever done in all the worlds. She listened to some old women who had the views of old witches. She didn't even fight as she punished a child of innocence just born that day - that hour - and let go of him...threw to the cruelty of the lands below them. She killed and persecuted an infant whose only fault was existing and having the destiny of becoming a child of fire, born in the cruel koorime land. The little boy, already looked down upon at his birth...was killed by her own hands...because of the prejudice that she never even understood or cared for. She killed innocence that day...the day that could have been the best day of his life...all because she listened to the words of the elders...
'There is no room here for pity.'
And at this night, and all other nights, sleep would never come easy because of those innocent and young ruby eyes...because she failed to protect life and innocence.
Rui stood up, her slender build full of fatigue, as she walked easily towards the little girl's bed, kneeling before the young one as if asking for forgiveness. Yukina, as she had called her, was a dear soul, kind and compassionate unlike the other beings that existed at this cruel floating island. Yukina, child of Hina and of an unknown fire demon, twin sister of the forbidden unnamed child, was all that was left...and she would make sure that she would never live the fate that her brother had received the day they were born. She will not be thrown just like that, like some garbage or unwanted toy anymore - like a child so mercilessly persecuted...in cold blood. She would try even if it was so hard... so very hard.
"Rui-san, I have a brother, don't I? I remember him from our time in Haha-ue's womb... but, Rui-san, why was he banished from our land? What fault had he when he had only been an infant?" Yukina was still a young child yet her eyes already spoke of sadness and despair only the elders and those who had suffered knew of. The way she moved, although with a lot of goodness, reflected her deep pain and even hate for her race...because of the tragedy of her family...of losing a family she so much deserved.
"Yukina-chan..." the much older koorime said, not knowing what to say. Yukina was growing older now, more mature, and she was beginning to understand and become aware of what was happening...or what had happened not too long ago. Her ruby red eyes were firmly on the woman who had taken care of her since birth... the same haunting red eyes of that little boy...
"It's okay, Rui-san.
You don't have to tell me. Gomen nasai for asking such a question. I already
know the answer." She turned away, her tiny toddler form deliberate as
if she was masking that same pain again...the pain that no one should have
given her...the pain that no one deserved. Her hand touched the clear white
teargem that her mother had shed - one of two - and she looked outside
through the window of their home. Her gaze travelled to the people who
despised her brother and moved her eyes away quickly with anger, her eyes
suddenly seeing the edge of the island. Only clouds surrounded the crystal
glacier but she knew that down below there was a land where her brother
might still be...where the innocent boy persecuted by her people might
be suffering right now if he had not been killed by the fall...if he was
still alive. One word touched her lips, a longing and sad soft tone reflecting
her hidden emotions. "Aniki..."
In the
arms of an angel
fly away
from here
from this
dark cold hotel room
and the
endlessness that you fear
you are
pulled from the wreckage
of your
silent reverie
you're
in the arms of the angel
may you
find some comfort there
The sky was infinitely high and clear these days, the sunshine always bright and its glow always emitting warmth, reminding all beings about the wonders of life. The trees - lush and green as early summer was upon the lands - swayed as a warm and comforting breeze ruffled the leaves on their branches, some of them falling - flying amidst the wind, a serene sight as children on the grass-covered grounds of a park played with smiles on their little faces.
Youko Kurama sat, cross-legged, in his human child form, his brows knitted as if in contemplation, ignoring the other happily playing children. In his mind were questions that demanded answers from the woman who looked at him with so much kindness... as if he was the nicest thing she had ever had...as if she cared so much for him. But, did she? Really? Was she really like his old parents from more than a thousand years ago who had cared for him too? Was this real?
His emerald gaze fell on the woman who was his human form's mother and his brows knitted even more as she smiled at him again. She smiled so easily...and so readily whenever he looked at her. In all the centuries of his life, he had thought that humans were weak...and so this woman was also weak yet...why was he so enchanted by her smile? By the kindness that emanated from her?
He watched as the woman stood up from the bench that was not so far away and walked towards him, the sun making her form more angelic...like she was a creature from heaven. Shiori...his...kaasan...
Shiori bent down to look at her preschooler, understanding eyes fixed on the redheaded boy. "Shuu-chan, you're not enjoying, are you? I understand. We can go home if you want to. How does that sound, ne Shuu-chan?"
Youko Kurama nodded once, as usual not enjoying such worthless time used to supposedly play with other kids. If he were able, he would much prefer to be alone, on a hunt or on a quest to steal some treasures so as to satisfy his flamboyant ways.
Shiori smiled warmly again and embraced her son, startling the seemingly cold child. "Shuu-chan..."
He heard a loud crack, painful to the ears but oddly, soothing to his being. His heart - the heart that he had guarded for centuries since the last friend he had passed away - began to melt under the radiance and warmth that the woman emitted. He heard another crack and felt the ice around his heart melt away...slowly and gently...
They both stood, side by side, hands intertwined as the woman smiled at her only son.
"Kaasan..." the preschooler said slowly, almost uncertainly. "Let's go home."
Not too far away, children continued to play as mothers and fathers watched them with smiles on their faces, pride in their gazes. Laughter and childish talk filled the air as the rays of the sun continued to blanket them all. Everything was as peaceful as it had always been until...
A young boy's cry was heard - all too familiar - as he ran towards his mother, his fingers rubbing at his eyes as he struggled hard to stop the tears. "K-kaasan..."
A very young woman caught her hurtling son, the force of his emotional run slightly making her back up. Immediately, she put her arms around the little boy, whispering soothing words to his ears as she looked around for the cause of her son's distress. "What happened, Yu-chan?"
With his arms tightly around his mother's neck, he whispered his problem, trying hard to talk straight as gasps caused by his sobs made it difficult to speak. "K-kaa-s-san, th-they c-called me th-that a-again."
Her eyes became cold as she easily lifted the young boy, grabbing their things and fastly walking away. Such heartless humans...children could be so cruel sometimes, saying such degrading names to others and not even thinking twice about whom they're hurting. "Forget about them, Yu-chan. You still have me remember? You never needed your worthless father anyway and you're not..." She shut her mouth immediately as she walked between some parents. They were staring at her and some were even whispering but she didn't care. In her mind, only Yu-chan mattered. No matter what they said, she was trying to be a good mother...no matter how hard it was. She was doing this alone but with Yu-chan at her side, they would be fine.
Yu-chan, everything's going to be fine...
The child on her arms just hugged her tighter and spoke words of innocence...of innocence but full of power. "Arigatou, kaasan. I wouldn't exchange you for any other mother in the world. Arigatou..."
For the first time after
such a long time, the mother of the child cried.
So tired
of the straight line
and everywhere
you turn
there's
vultures and thieves at your back
and the
storm keeps on twisting
you keep
on building the lie
that you
make up for all that you lack
it don't
make no difference
escaping
one last time
it's easier
to believe in this sweet madness oh
this glorious
sadness that brings me to my knees
He was dressed in all-black, a long and torn cape trailing behind him as a wicked smirk was on his face. He had shed blood yet again and as always it had again caused him joy to hear such cries for mercy. At such a young age, he was feared and thus deemed 'flying shadow' for his quickness and his reputation for a bandit and a speedy killer. He had blood-red eyes, reflecting all that he had seen and all that he had caused this world which was death and the ceasing of life. Raven black hair stood on end at his small head as a starburst the color of white clashed with it. Alabaster skin as well as that starburst on his black hair clashed with what people considered him to be as everyone looked at him as a child of darkness, cast away for the simple fact that he had existed. In his heart though, he cared no longer about his unholy reputation as only anger and wickedness tried to prevail in his being. The secret pain was kept hidden as a mask that only showed cruelty was placed carefully on his face.
He walked slowly, his young toddler eyes looking straight ahead as he travelled back to the bandits' cave when he suddenly heard childish noises. He halted and frowned in surprise as he heard laughter and merriment going on. Turning his face quickly to the direction of the noise, he disappeared and a few seconds later, reappeared near one of the older children. His brows knitted as he looked at them with curiosity. There were about ten of them, all older than him and all of them happily playing a game. He watched them closely and quietly before one of the bigger boys looked down at him with an angry and disgusted growl.
"The forbidden child!" the tall boy shouted and made a run for it, causing the others to follow quickly, their eyes wide with fear and anger at the lone boy who stood there with confusion and disappointment.
Flying shadow sighed as he turned away, embarrassed yet again at his reputation and angry at their prejudice towards him. One hand rested at his katana and he contemplated killing again today. As he heard another shout of disgust by one of the older children, his hands fell at his sides. He clenched his hands, turning them to fists as he shook with anger and revolt... in his fate, in the people around him and at himself.
Haha-ue... where are you? Imouto...
His young crimson eyes lowered and he looked at the ground in shame. He was angry and embarrassed and the only way he knew how to make it better was to kill, for it made him feel better when he heard cries that echoed that he wasn't the only one suffering...that they could suffer too with his own sword. He could kill yet again today...those kids...he could kill them yet...it would be too easy. It would feel better yet it would only be temporary. When will the ceasing of his secret pain be permanent? Will it ever?
As he raised his head, one hand crept up to the gem that he wore around his neck, the only thing that he owned that was from his mother and the only thing that could provide him with inner peace.
He walked again, slower this time as he again practiced the expressionless face that served as his mask and suddenly paused as a flash of white caught his attention. He looked closely at the flash that turned brighter, a hand securely on the hilt of his sword and his eyes widened as the light became a gateway to another place - a portal to another realm. Backing away suddenly, he never realized that there was another portal at the back of him and a few moments later, his lithe form fell, his eyes wide as he saw another portal close in front of him, the sound of unusual noises making him alert. He stood up quickly and looked around, his insides suddenly in fear as his eyes took in a strange new landscape.
The ground he stood in was like a big flat rock, stretching far and wide and he was surrounded by odd buildings like the ones in the town where he and the other bandits had stole in not too long ago. They were much different however and it looked like he was really on another realm.
His eyes narrowed in suspicion as he heard noises nearby and he turned around quickly to see a man and a woman, with the same humanoid figure as he had, looking at him with a weird expression on their faces.
The woman spoke gently and the little toddler boy could only hold on to the hilt of his katana as he listened at her words. "Kodomo-chan, are you lost? Do you need help? Where's your parents?"
The little boy could only look at them with confusion on his face as his brows knitted at the odd tone that she had used with and the caring words offered to him. He crossed his arms and glared at both beings, walking away from them with his nose high in the air as he snubbed their presence easily. He stopped suddenly as he heard them laugh at his behavior, feeling a hand on his'. His eyes widened as he quickly disentangled himself from such an odd gesture, question on his eyes.
They only smiled at him while the man spoke. "You need help, ne? Where's your home?"
The child's fingers lingered once again on his sword but then dropped to his sides as he saw the kind smiles on their faces...which was so confusing. He decided not to kill them but to just turn and walk away. He turned around, walked towards a corner and spoke softly, not once turning back. "I don't need help. I never did."
As the little boy turned the corner, the man and woman walked towards him too, intending to follow so as to make sure that the boy was safe but when they searched for the black-clad child, he was gone as if he had never existed.
He flitted through trees, one of the few things that was familiar to him in this new world as he looked around anxiously. A thought came to his mind...
Haha-ue? Could you and Imouto be here? Chichi-ue? Could it be possible-?
As he stayed on one of the high trees, he sighed, looking up at the sky and noticing for the first time that he had lost his cape and that snow was suddenly beginning to fall from the sky. It was beginning to become cold and he shivered from his spot, turning into a ball as he sat at one of the crooks of the tree, intending to keep warm as the cold weather threatened to freeze his bones. He shivered more and wanted to go back to the bandits that barely considered him as someone... the cave that he could barely consider as home.
Chichi-ue... Haha-ue...
where are you when I need you?
in the

fly away

from this

and the

He woke up from the sound of laughter and merriment and he noticed that he had survived the night of snow. His eyes blinked sleepiness away and he stood up quickly, intending to find the source of the joyful voices. Flitting away, he landed in front of a window, his balance perfect at the thin ledge. His eyes looked inside a home, intending to find answers to some questions. He dared not to hope...
It looked warm inside as a tree was placed in the center of a room, some strange ornaments and stuff draped all over it, and strange bright light blinking from it. A man and a woman sat with each other in what looked like a very comfortable chair, their hands intertwined as their gazes were on two children. There was a girl, a lot older than the forbidden child, happily destroying the covering to a box that seemingly contained something precious. She had long brown hair and a happy face while she teased a smaller boy with curly orange hair and small black eyes. They looked happy and warm, enjoying each other's presence as they suddenly all stood up and headed towards a table that was full of all kinds of food and treats.
Hiei turned away from them, angry once again but at the same time confused. He felt his stomach rumble from hunger but he ignored it, used to it. What could have made them deserve those things? What had he done wrong? He turned around easily on the ledge and jumped down to the snow-covered ground, intending to ignore such things. His hand again went to the hilt of his katana but there was no hint of any killing to occur. He only lowered his gaze and walked ahead, not realizing as yet another portal opened in front of him.
Again, he fell and landed on his back, his eyes blinking as he took in his surroundings. Odd... it wasn't cold anymore. As he was about to close his eyes again, a booted feet collided with his ribs and he winced, quickly standing up. He realized quickly that he was back at the cave and that one of his masters looked at him disapprovingly with his arms crossed.
"Forbidden child, we're going to steal from a nearby town today, get ready." the youkai said once, glaring at the defiant child and turning to get the others ready as well.
He could only sigh as the man left him alone, thoughts running though his head. Had it all just been a dream? Or a vision?
Hn... who cared? Who
ever cared?
you're
in the arms of the angel
may you
find some comfort here.
Light and darkness. Cold and warmth. Toy cars and marbles. Pretty Dolls and tea sets. Twin stars, each from either end of the galaxy. Black and White. Two halves of a whole, divided. Crying - both little hearts. A soul broken. Children of the same blood, worlds apart.
Snow and dull gray skies. Icicles everywhere. Everything reminding her of home...of her home...not his'. A sigh. Mist came out of her delicate ruby lips as she stared at the forest. He must hate this weather...not because of the coldness or the inconvenience it may bring but because it brought back... She closed her eyes, not wanting to remember...
Memories.
Memories... still so vivid. It was still on her mind...the plea...the helpless plea by an innocent infant. The plea...to be saved. The plea to be safe. The plea to have...a future.
She stopped at the feel of youki...youki almost like her own...but somehow, different. She must be ready. She's gone this far. Who could it be now?
Flitting away, she tried her best to run away from that youkai. It would be very unsafe to confront that youkai even though it was almost familiar. Her eyes widened. Almost familiar? She stopped and looked back to where she'd come from and saw...
A little koorime girl looked at her with a surprised expression on her face, eyes wide.
She gazed back at the
little girl and smiled. Finally, she had found her...her daughter...Yukina.
A dark night. Winds cold as a winter's night blew inside one of the large castle's rooms and messed up the sheets on the untouched humongous bed. The inhabitant didn't seem to mind though as he just sat on the window sill, looking out, the shadows caused by the moon and the tall trees outside playing on his delicate face.
A soft knock on the door of his room...then a whisper. "Hiei? Are you still awake?"
The small figure slowly got down from his perch and padded towards the door in silence. Opening it without a word, he saw who he expected to see...Mukuro.
"Hiei, you are needed." she said in a voice that he had never heard her use before. Was there something wrong?
"Where?" he asked without expression.
She sighed, looking at her heir with a mysterious face. "In the Ningenkai. Yukina had sent for you and-"
His eyes slightly widened. "Y-yukina?" Was there something wrong? Why would she send for him? Did she know the truth? He calmed himself long enough to put his mask back into place.
She just had a slight smile, only reserved for him. "Don't worry, I think she...and someone else just wants to see you."
"Who's worrying?" he retorted, scowling. How could Mukuro read him so easily?
"Hn." she just answered in amusement. "I know you more than you think. You know, you're like a little brother to me."
"Little?" he asked in fury. Why does she still call him little even after...
"Oh, just go." she urged with a smile. "Just that-" She stopped.
He looked at her with a curious expression. It slipped again...she did care for him...as he did for her. They were learning it...through time and effort.
"Hn." She smiled once again. "Come back happy, okay?"
Come back happy? Was
that what she said? Was she implying that he tell his sister who he really
was? That he actually be... happy? Hn. Absurd. He gave her a look and flitted
away.
White. Snow everywhere. Winter most definitely. He hated it...not because of the weather or the inconvenience it brought but because...because it brought back...memories. Dreadful memories.
Sensing familiar youkis and reikis inside the temple, he snorted. A party? They were having a party and they dared to use Yukina's name just to drag him here? Standing on top of a branch of a tree, he sighed, watching the mist coming out from his lips. Hn. He didn't have to go in if he didn't want to but then, Yukina-
His eyes widened as realization
hit him. Why hadn't he noticed it before? It was another youki...similar
to Yukina's but stronger. His insides raged as his fists clenched. A koorime...
Her eyes widened as she felt him. He's here...outside...probably in confusion because of another koorime's ki. She must go to him...to reassure him. To guide him towards the light. To comfort him and... and... just be his sister. A smile touched her lips.
She opened the door and flickered out of sight, suddenly appearing in front of his confused twin. "Oniisan." She smiled and took his hand.
Hiei just stared back at her, wide-eyed and almost trembling at the startlement that that one word had caused. "Y-yukina-san?"
She nodded. "We both knew. Remember the last time we saw each other? Of course I knew... aniki."
The young youkai sighed and nodded too, closing his eyes as he understood. Aniki...that's what she called him. Not just oniisan... but aniki. An endearment.
"I called by the way because I'd like you to meet someone." Yukina's eyes and touch on his hand was still gentle and there was no sign of betrayal...and why would she betray him? The young koorime's eyes clouded with tears as she struggled to control herself. Suddenly, without any warning, she wrapped her arms around him, as he did to her...as they both had always dreamed of...secretly.
"Imouto..." Was this right? He wanted to protect her too yet...she seemed so happy about this...
The temple of Genkai was crowded and warm, a tree placed in the center of a room, some strange ornaments and stuff draped all over it, and strange bright light blinking from it.
Two young youkais entered the temple and silence suddenly engulfed the place, each familiar face either smiling or nervous for the forbidden child. Hiei looked at them once, his gaze suddenly on a tree...like the one on a dream from his past, his features still schooled as before as his senses was alert at the source of the koorime's ki.
Yukina stopped, stood in front of her brother and smiled before pulling him towards a woman who sat tensely on the tatami, at Genkai-san's side. Hiei's eyes widened as the woman turned to him, her eyes becoming wide at the sight of him. He barely started to try to comprehended who she was before she flickered out of view and not a second later was all over him, her arms engulfing him tightly, not wanting to let go as she rubbed soothing circles at his back. Hiei blinked at the tight embrace, his hands still at his side as he didn't know what to do. The woman seemed familiar...but could she really be-? But then, she was dead wasn't she? He had seen her grave with his own eyes...and that was what Rui told her, wasn't it? He dared not to hope.
"Gomen." the woman whispered, as her eyes became misty, tears falling freely from her eyes. "Gomen nasai...gomen nasai...gomen nasai..."
The dark young youkai looked ahead, his eyes sightless as he let the woman embrace him. Confusion over what to do was racing on his mind and he slowly looked over at Yukina, turning his questioning blood-red eyes to her identical ones.
She only smiled and a familiar word formed on her lips. She didn't say it loud enough for anyone to hear but the smile at the word he had read from her features startled him and made him stop, provoking his body to go still, tension building up in his features. "H... Haha-ue?"
The woman only hugged him tighter. "My child."
Hiei gasped in surprise as he realized it. Haha-ue? How? Slowly as if expecting another rejection, he lifted his arms, finally embracing back, finally accepting her apologies as he tried to erase all that he ever thought wrongly about her.
"He'll be coming to." she whispered, straightening up to her full height. She looked down at her only son and smiled, giving another smile to her daughter.
Hiei just looked up at her, unable to say anything coherent at the moment as the shock that his mother was here, in front of him at this moment, at this place. What did she say? Who's coming too?
The door to the temple opened once again and all eyes turned to the new being clad in black and grey, his long hair, black and silky, cascaded down his shoulders, his eyes crimson red, reflecting life and love. He turned to the tall woman with long sea green hair, the only being that mattered at this very moment and this very time. He rushed to her and immediately took her in his arms, failing to notice two pairs of crimson eyes much like his own. It had been a few years at least but a few years were too long of a wait. But now, they would be together. They will never part again.
"Itooshi." the koorime whispered at the man's ear, also embracing him with just as much love. She pulled back and touched his face, moving a little so that the man would see the two little red-eyed young youkais that stood behind her, their little faces looking over at them in curiosity.
"Itooshi...I'd like you to meet our children. Yukina and Hiei." She beamed with warmth and pure joy.
The little girl moved first, stepping forward towards him and offering a smile. "Chichi-ue."
The man smiled and crouched, opening his arms widely for the girl that looked so much like Hina, embracing her tightly, his gaze falling on the other young youkai. He smiled at him, noticing that he was a perfect copy of himself though the boy was younger and smaller, and motioned for him to come to him too...
But the boy didn't move a muscle, his gaze hard and angry. He turned away and closed his eyes, disbelieving at the way things were going. This couldn't be really happening...could it? No way could a horrible life suddenly become like this. It could never be fine! Could it? Was it just a dream?
"Go on, Hiei." He heard Yusuke's encouragement and the others' too but they didn't understand. He knew this could be very embarrassing but he cared no longer. There was something about him they will never understand and all this had suddenly become too confusing. Was this event really taking place? Is his family really here? He was afraid that if he touched them again...they'd disappear just like all those other times so no, this could not be real. He took a step forward and intended to leave, not wanting to bask in the glow that his supposed family and the families all around him provided so freely. This could not be happening!
The little youkai stopped as he felt arms embracing him from the back, a head near his'...identical eyes looking at his face. He stilled and didn't try to do anything, the same schooled expressionlessness gracing his features. He struggled to maintain control.
"Otouto, I'm sorry for causing you and your sister sadness." The man offered, his arms around his slender son.
Hiei kept his control. "Where were you when I needed you?"
"I..." The man closed his eyes. "Gomen nasai. I never knew until now. If I did, I would have been there. Gomen nasai."
"Aniki, onegai." Hiei barely heard his sister as terrible memories threatened him to lose control. How could they take control of his life - his emotions just like that? This could not be happening!
"Otouto, onegai."
Was this a chance... a chance for rebirth? A new chance, though late, to finally gain a family? Or was it a joke? This could not be happe... but it was and he should be happy, shouldn't he? This was what he had wanted for a long time but had never gotten... until now.
He disentangled himself from his father's embrace, confused at why the man had tears in his eyes. Why should he cry for him? Why would anyone - especially a man - cry for him? Speaking softly, he just nodded, avoiding all drama in his voice. "Chichi-ue."
The man only smiled. "Welcome home then, Hiei."
At the words, Hiei's eyes widened slightly, hearing those words he longed for the first time in his life. He looked around and saw all gazes on him, smiles and warmth amidst winter swallowing them all in joy and in peace. A rebirth...another chance...
Home...he was finally
home.

I've never dedicated my fics to everyone before but now I will. This is for the memory of two great mothers - my last Grandmother who passed away last February and my Aunt who left the earth Easter Sunday this year after fighting cancer for a whole year. And to all those who ever lost a loved one.
