005 - A Ressurreição:
a Nova Missão
(The Resurrection:
The New Mission)
Koenma comes to Ningenkai to fulfill his promise of resurrecting Yusuke. The boy's body is now lying on a bed in the new apartment Atsuko has moved to, after her house burned down.
Koenma explains that there are energy waves that bath bodies and souls; Yusuke's soul would only be able to go back to his body when the wavelengths of both reach the same pattern. "This will occur tomorrow."
Yusuke is happy with the news, but Koenma warns him that his energy have peculiar wavelengths. If he fails to resurrect the next day, he won't have another chance in the next fifty years.
To come back to life, the body must receive from another human life energy, which must be injected through the mouth, in a kiss. Yusuke screams in terror. Koenma: "In order to save a life, it's a worthy sacrifice, don't you think?"
Koenma
energizes the body, saying it will be shining gold the next day. At that
night, the three people who most wish Yusuke's return will be given a
dream, explaining what they should do. One of these people is Atsuko,
who is currently working very hard in getting herself drunk. The others
are of course Keiko and...
Kuwabara
wakes up screaming, after dreaming he was leaning over Yusuke, who was
unconscious and shining gold; he gently took his rival in his arms and
kissed him on the lips. Remembering the scene, Kuwabara screams again
in disgust.
Keiko visits Yusuke before school, but since she doesn't see any gold shine, she promptly assumes that her dream has been exactly that: nothing but a dream. In fact, Yusuke's feet are already shining under the covers. Koenma, watching from the outside along with Botan and Yusuke, explains starts its expansion from the feet, and that by noon the whole body will be shining and ready for the resurrection.
At school, Keiko is disappointed for Kuwabara skipped class; she wanted to discuss her dream with him. Takenaka-sensei enters the classroom and informs her that her mother is sick.
At the hospital Keiko and her father are told that Yukimura-san is fine, all she has is the flu and fatigue; but still Keiko decides to stay there until her mother wakes up. Botan is frustrated. At this time, Yusuke's body is totally immersed in the golden spiritual shine, and only needs to be kissed to come back to life. But Yusuke understands Keiko's situation, and says she must stay with her mother now.
So Yusuke and Botan go to the arcade, where Kuwabara is playing some games. Yusuke pleads: "I have to give in, I have no choice. I beg you to kiss me." But Kuwabara can't hear him, since he's still a ghost. Running out of time and patience, Yusuke tries to punch him, but ends up falling right through Kuwabara's body. Kuwabara feels that as an icy shiver, and runs away in fright.
Then Yusuke tries to attract the attention of his mother, who's in a nightclub with a bunch of friends. But even if Atsuko were able to see or hear him, she's too drunk to do a thing.
It's 11:45 pm; there are only fifteen minutes left, and Yusuke doesn't know what to do. But Botan has an idea, and flies away on her oar.
At the hospital, Keiko's mother mutters in her sleep: "Yusuke... go to Yusuke... quick... time is short... if you don't kiss him... until midnight... he'll wake up... never more..." Listening to this, Keiko remembers the dream and runs frantically to the Urameshis' new apartment.
Koenma
and Yusuke see Keiko arrive, and Botan comes to tell them that she sent
a spiritual message through Keiko's mother. The clock is striking midnight
when Keiko gets to Yusuke's room; the shine is vanishing. She kisses him.
After a moment of doubt, Yusuke wakes up: "Hello, good morning!"
Botan is relieved, but Koenma warns: "Don't be hasty, Botan. Now the true test will begin. It won't be easy. The life he's had floating around is nothing compared to what's coming now."
The
next day. Yusuke is very happy in walking on the streets and breathing
again. Two boys try to scare some money out of him; but Yusuke is so delighted
now that he can be heard and seen once more, he simply thanks the boys
and walks away without giving them anything. Thinking Yusuke is nuts,
the boys leave him alone.
In
an alley, Yusuke meets a fortuneteller whose face is hidden behind a veil.
Gazing at a crystal ball, she tells him: "You were born under a very different
star. You're different from other people. You have a huge mission ahead."
But Yusuke is not interested in spirits and mysteries, and leaves before
she finishes.
Yusuke enters a coffee shop. He overhears some boys commenting that Sakamoto's gang is there, and that the group is trying to win Kuwabara's territory. "If Yusuke were alive," says one of the boys, "he would fix this in a second."
Yusuke
sits at a table where he can watch the mentioned gang, and notices that
the group has grown while he's been away. And to his shock, he also notices
he can "see" horns coming out from Sakamoto's head.
Yusuke listens to their conversation. Sakamoto has told Kuwabara to steal some comic books to him. Yusuke is sure Kuwabara would never steal from anyone, but soon Kuwabara shows up with his gang - Kirishima, Okubo and Sayamura - and drops the comic books on Sakamoto's table, demanding the release of Eikichi in return. However, Sakamoto finds a receipt, proving that Kuwabara bought the books, instead of stealing them, as he has been told to.
Sakamoto tells Kuwabara to kneel and beg for his forgiveness, or else he won't free Eikichi. Sayamura and Okubo bark in protest, but Kuwabara capitulates, begging Sakamoto's forgiveness on his knees.
Yusuke wonders who Eikichi might be for Kuwabara to care so much, and falls back in astonishment when one of the bullies holds Eikichi up to challenge Kuwabara. Eikichi is Kuwabara's cute pet kitten.
The two gangs go outside to a backyard. Sakamoto says he's only free Eikichi if Kuwabara beat his own friends up. The same bully threatens the cat with a broken bottle. Kirishima, Okubo and Sayamura say they don't mind being beaten; after the cat is safe, they'll have the chance to set their accounts with Sakamoto's gang. But Kuwabara doesn't want to betray his friends and is paralyzed.
That's when Yusuke interferes, knocking down the bully and saving Eikichi. Everyone but Kuwabara is in shock at seeing him alive. With his help, Kuwabara's gang easily defeats Sakamoto's.
Sakamoto himself runs away, abandoning his friends, and Yusuke is disgusted. He runs after him and knocks him out. But then he sees a lilliputian demon coming out from Sakamoto's mouth. The demon is surprised at being seen and heard by a mere human and jumps to escape. But although the demon is astoundingly fast, Yusuke captures him effortlessly.
The fortuneteller reappears and compliments Yusuke for fulfilling his first mission without even being told to. She says the lilliputian demon enters the bodies of weak humans and entices them to practice evil acts. Taking out the veils, she reveals to be the ever-joyful Botan.
A huge image of Koenma appears in the sky and tells Yusuke that he now has to work as a Reikai Tantei - a detective of the Spiritual World -, capturing the demons that invade the Ningenkai. He has to follow Koenma's orders, and Botan will be his assistant.
