Yusuke makes a huge effort to stand up; he has an idea of how to defeat his adversary. When Kibano attacks again, Yusuke manages to hold on to his arm after receiving the punch. Kibano compliments him for the strategy but says he's experienced in many kinds of wrestle; he shoves Yusuke away in a tornado flight. When the boy hits the wall he spits blood.
Botan thinks his only chance is the Reigan, but he can only fire one each day, and since he can't see the opponent in the dark the probability of hitting the target is fairly slim.
Yusuke
gets on his feet again and challenges Kibano to attack again. "I admit
you fought bravely," says Kibano. "Isn't that enough for you?" Yusuke
calls him a coward. Kibano sends ki to his right arm, growing the muscles
again, and charges. But this time Yusuke sees him coming and hits him
with the Reigan; Kibano's helmet is shattered and he notices a lit cigarette
hanging from his belt. It's the cigarette Genkai threw on Yusuke; the
boy found it and put it on Kibano's belt when he grabbed his arm. When
the man attacked, Yusuke aimed the Reigan using the light of the cigarette
as a guide.
Kibano collapses and Yusuke is declared the winner. Genkai announces the next round: Kazemaru vs. Urameshi. Yusuke protests; he won't even have a few minutes to rest? Genkai says that the order was decided by the draw and must be respected. Kuwabara teases Yusuke for his bad luck.
Genkai leads them outside, to the place where the final rounds will take place: a swamp that once was a battlefield, where many wandering souls still haunt the ones who dare to cross it - Kuwabara can see them clearly and sense their eerie presence.
Yusuke is worried. Only four contestants remain: Shorin, Kazemaru, Kuwabara and himself, which means that either Shorin or Kazemaru is the mighty Rando. Yusuke has shot his Reigan already; how is he going to fight now?
The haunted swamp emanates a strong ki that can feed the contestants' power. Kazemaru literally glows with the extra energy. Yusuke feels his strength slowly returning, but still doesn't have enough to recharge the Reigan.
Kazemaru tells Yusuke he pities the boy for having to fight now: "In this war, any means are valid. Even luck can help those with strong spirits."
At Reikai, Koenma is watching through his videoscreen; he's worried not only about Yusuke, but also about his own reputation, since it was him who appointed Urameshi to the Tantei job. An oni warns him about a phone call. Unwilling to miss the fight, Koenma pretends to be an answering machine and asks the caller to leave a message; he hears Enma-daiou roaring his disapproval for his son's "absence" in the office. Startled, Koenma inadvertently cuts the call and blames the oni for it. The oni protests: it was the Prince who hung up. "If I say it's your fault, then it is!" Koenma counters.
The
fight starts, and Yusuke has no defense against his opponent's punches.
Kazemaru throws five shuriken and Yusuke dodges easily, but the shuriken
start following him wherever he goes. He tries to outsmart them by standing
before a tree and jumping out of the way at the last moment. The shuriken
do get stuck in the trunk, but they explode right after the contact with
the wood. Yusuke is shoved in the air by the explosion impact.
His only chance now is to run towards Kazemaru, so when the shuriken hits him the man will die with him. Kazemaru energize his hand, intending to kill Yusuke before he gets too close, using the same Reigan-like ball of energy he defeated Kuroda with. But all of a sudden, Yusuke vanishes. The shuriken hit Kazemaru and explode.
Botan
and Kuwabara look for Yusuke and find him inside a hole filled with swamp
muddy water. "You imbecile, what a place to hide!" exclaims Kuwabara.
"I wasn't hiding," Yusuke explains. "I fell."
Genkai smirks. "When you vanished, Kazemaru was startled and didn't have the time to protect himself from his own shuriken. By an irony of destiny, Yusuke Urameshi is the winner." Both Yusuke and Kazemaru - who's too wounded to fight but still alive - can't believe it. Kuwabara is puzzled by the weird combination of good and bad luck in Yusuke.
The next fight is Kuwabara vs. Shorin. Or should we say, Kuwabara vs. Rando?
