Episode 015 - A Dança da Rosa
(Dance of the Rose)

The Gate of TreasonYusuke, Kuwabara, Kurama and Hiei are doing their best to hold the ceiling up, but the Gate of Treason is slowly coming down, threatening to smash them all. The eye-demon reminds them that only the traitor will be able to escape the trap and enter the castle.

Kuwabara threatens Hiei if the little demon decide to betray them. "Oh really? But if we stay like this we’ll all die just the same." Yusuke tells them to calm down, and tries to think of a way of pulling the lever that controls the Gate. "Hiei, I think you're the only one who can do it," Yusuke says. "Out of the four of us, you're the fastest. We're counting on you, Hiei, go!" Kuwabara protests, saying he doesn't trust Hiei, and asks Yusuke to go himself. Hiei smirks, "For the first time, I think that crumpled-face is right."

But Hiei is surprised by Yusuke's vow of trust: "Once I tried to kill you. I could run off and never rescue you. And still you trust me?" Yusuke smiles at him: "When you decide to kill me, you'll do it face to face. If I use all my strength I can hold your part of the burden. Go, please, Hiei! Quick!"

Kurama smiles when he sees Hiei running in his blurring speed towards the lever, but his exit made the balance between the boys' strength and the Gate's pressure unstable, and the ceiling comes down a few inches more. Yusuke's aura is shining red, for he's trying to hold for Hiei and himself at the same time.

Hiei hesitates in pulling the leverHiei gets to the lever and reaches to it... and hesitates. He looks back at the other boys, and Kuwabara urges him to pull the lever. The eye-demon tells Hiei to forget the others, promising to take him to the Beasts that would certainly accept him as a new companion. Kuwabara yells at him: "You bastard! Yusuke trusted in you and you still have the nerve to betray him?"

Hiei steps back from the lever and smirks, "You idiot..."

"Traitor!!!" exclaims Kuwabara.

"I like you," says the eye-demon. "You don't deserve to die with them. Come, I'm going to guide you inside." But when the eye-demon turns, Hiei blurs out and appears above the creature with a katana in his hands. Hiei slashes the eye with a vertical cut and pulls the lever, stopping the Gate, but also activating a trap that drops a giant rock on him. Yusuke and the others stare in shock, but the next moment they see Hiei standing on the rock, shouting at the retreating eye-demon: "Go and tell the Beasts that if they want to enjoy their lives, they should do it now."

Yusuke thanks Hiei for saving their livesFeeling a little broken from the effort of holding the ceiling, Yusuke pats Hiei on the back: "Thanks, Hiei, you're a good actor. I knew you wouldn't let us down. But you'll still keep your bad attitude, huh?" Hiei shrugs him off. "Hn. I didn't do it to save your lives. I only did it because in order to confront the Beasts, the more the better." As Hiei steps away, Kurama tells Yusuke not to worry, that's Hiei style. Kuwabara mutters, "I can't stand his cynicism."

In one of the towers of the castle, the Four Beasts discuss what they should do, now that the boys passed through the Gate of Prison. One of them punches the wall, making a hole in it: "Damned Hiei! No one can play around with us. I'm gonna finish him." But another says he'll be the one to confront the Tantei and destroy them.

Yusuke and Botan talk through the commThe boys are walking through another corridor when the comm device Botan gave Yusuke beeps, making Kuwabara jump, startled. When Kazuma sees Botan in the tiny screen though, he takes the comm away from Yusuke: "Ah, Botan! I protect the weak and destroy the strong, and I'm here protecting your little friend." Yusuke grabs the comm back and asks her about he situation in Tokyo. She says that she just knocked out another demon. While she's talking though, the demon she had just knocked out stands up and tries to attack from behind. Yusuke warns her about him, but she whacks the demon again with the baseball bat without even turning: "Oh, don't worry, Yusuke, these demons are so weak... I'm having more trouble with the insects, I've been hunting them all day and only got to kill 15 until now."

"Out of thousands?" exclaims Yusuke. That's hardly enough. The demon tries to stand up again, but Botan swings the bat on him again: "Come on, demon, can't you see I'm in the middle of a conversation?"

Yusuke realizes he has to destroy the Flute fast. Botan tells him to be careful and signs off, in time to use the Spiritual Insecticide in one of the dangerous insects. Grabbing the bat, she runs to get on with her hunt.

At Reikai, George runs to the large library, where he finds Koenma up on a ladder, looking for a book. George says he was informed that the group of Tantei managed to pass through the Gate of Treason. Koenma is satisfied with the news, and says he's looking for a book that could tell him more about the Beasts. "Hun? You sent Yusuke there without knowing who the Beasts are?" George exclaims. "That's cruelty!"

"What else could I do?" Koenma complains. "I can't count on anyone else. Would you like to go in his place?" George sweatdrops and starts helping Koenma to find the book.

In the castle, Yusuke asks Kurama what he and Hiei know about the Beasts: "I left in such a hurry, I forgot to ask." Kurama says they don't know either, for they and the Beasts don't belong to the same world: "All we know is that they're very powerful, that they're imprisoned in this castle and are dangerous."

Genbu, the first BeastA bodiless voice laughs and thanks for the compliment. Yusuke kicks the door where the voice came from. It opens to a dungeon-like chamber, lit with torches. Yusuke throws a torch on the darkest corner and they all see a big stone creature that welcomes them and introduces himself as Genbu.

The Beast indicates a spiral staircase behind him, saying it's the only way up: "You'll have to knock me down to pass, or die." He bangs his rocky tail on the stone floor, creating a small crater.

Kurama volunteers to fight first: "Attacking all at once is too risky when we don't know the enemy's skills. Hiei isn't the only good fighter here. I'll show my agility now." Hiei looks away. Yusuke advises Kurama to simply run to the staircase, since Genbu is too dangerous to fight against. "You don't know Kurama's strength," says Hiei. "Dou you know why I became his ally? Because I didn't want to be his enemy. He's persistent, and a lot stronger than I am." Kuwabara examines Kurama's frail appearance and doubts Hiei's words.

Genbu attacks Kurama from behindGenbu's tail disappears in the ground as if it was made of liquid, not stone, then appears behind Kurama, who turns in time to jump and avoid the lethal attack, but gets wounded in the chest nonetheless. The Beast brags that he can liquefy and solidify and merge with the stone of that chamber's walls, floor and ceiling. Answering to Yusuke and Kuwabara's concerned calls, Kurama says he's okay, just bruised. Genbu sinks completely in the ground, vanishing from sight. After a moment, he strikes from behind, surprising Kurama, who jumps out of the way and turns to face him — but then Genbu's tail lashes from the other side. With a series of somersaults, Kurama dodges until Genbu vanishes in the stone again.

Kurama and his trademark roseThe next strike comes from the ground Kurama is stepping on. Again Kurama somersaults out of the way. Out of sight once more, Genbu laughs: "If you keep fleeing you'll never win." Kurama smiles: "In this case, I think you're right." Delving his fingers in his red mane, he pulls out a red rose.

Kuwabara grimaces: "Wait a second. You're gonna give the Beast a rose?" Hiei laughs discreetly. "It's not a simple rose," says Kurama, "Rosewhip!" The rose petals spread through the air, perfuming the chamber, and the stem shifts into a thorny green whip.

Rosewhip!"What a snob," mutters Kuwabara. "He spoke in English. I hate this."

"Oh cut it out, Kuwabara," Yusuke chides. "You wanna be friends with everybody, you don't fool me."

Watching through the video screen in his office, Koenma admires the beauty of Kurama's skill, while George wonders how the rose smells like.

In the dungeon, the bodiless Genbu laughs: "What's the use of that whip if you can't tell where the attack will come from?" But one second before the next strike comes, Kurama predicts that it will come from the ceiling and use the whip in a complex series of lashes: "Kakon Retsu Senshi!" Genbu is cut in a dozen pieces, and Kurama explains that against the rose perfume, the Beast's stench was easy to spot.

Yusuke compliments Kurama for the victory. "It's incredible," exclaims Kuwabara. "He seems so frail!"

"You idiot," Hiei scowls. "He's very strong, that's why he won. In his place, you'd have fallen at the first strike." Kuwabara and Hiei restart the quarreling — and Kazuma even grabs Hiei by the scarf — until Yusuke tells them to stop the silly bickering, so they can continue the mission.

But Kurama tells him it's not over yet. Genbu's body reforms itself, only to dismember again to attack Kurama as a rain of flying rocks. The redhead uses the Kakon Retsu Senshi again, cutting the Beast in even smaller pieces... but Genbu reconstructs his body once more.

Genbu... huh?!However, in Genbu's next strike, Kurama notices a ruby-glowing gravel, and grabs it. When the Beast reforms his body, he starts seeing Kurama upside down — in fact, his body reformed all wrong and his head glued between his legs. Yusuke and Kuwabara find that hilarious.

Kurama holding the control stoneKurama shows the red pulsating gravel in his hand, the one that controlled the proper formation of the stone body: "I'm very skilled finding that kind of thing. Didn't you know I'm a professional thief?" Genbu begs for mercy, but Kurama lashes the whip against the red stone, cutting it in half. Genbu's body explodes in powder.

Yusuke cheers, but Kurama falls on the floor. The wound in the chest was more than a bruise. Hiei is appalled in seeing him injured. Kurama apologizes to Yusuke, who tells him not to worry: "We'll take care of the rest."

"I'll be next," Kuwabara promises. The boys start climbing the stairs. In an upper level of the castle, the second Beast, Byakko, laughs: "And I'll be next."
