051 - A Sombra de Toguro
(Toguro's Shadow)
The Gorenja and Toguro Teams (the former with only three members) enter the arena. Toguro Ani says that his younger brother had an important business to deal with.
In the hotel, Yusuke is sound asleep after receiving Genkai's Leiko-Hadou-Ken power, and Kuwabara is a bit worried, since the finals are in only two days. Genkai tells Kuwabara to let him rest and exists, saying she has something important to do. Before leaving, she says to Kazuma, "Don't lose."
Back
to the stadium, the first fight begins: Gorenja versus Karasu. Gorenja
forms a ball of acid and throws it at Karasu, who dodges sedately. The
acid falls over part of the public, killing them instantly. Gorenja tries
a second ball, but Karasu jumps on him and touches his shoulders; Gorenja's
arms explode. Gorenja tries to flee and Karasu, judging him a coward,
touches him again and explodes his entire body.
Kurama is watching the fight and realizes that Shuuichi Minamino's powers aren't enough to match Karasu's strength. Genkai had advised him and Hiei to watch the Toguro Team in the semi-finals and learn the enemies' abilities.
But Hiei preferred to practice with the Makai Fire by the sea. Mixing the Black Flames with ordinary fire, he manages to create a Dragon, but his right arm is still weak and vulnerable to that power.
In the forest, Genkai remembers scenes of Toguro and herself when she was young. The girls spot her and come to talk to her. Shizuru senses something strange about her. Genkai asks them to cheer for the Urameshi Team, and asks Keiko to take care of Yusuke. When Genkai walks away, Shizuru comments that the shihan is behaving strangely; Botan changes the subject quickly, but she's visibly worried too.
In
the stadium, Kirenja steps into the battlefield to face Bui, carrying
a long sword. But Bui summons an even bigger axe and shred his body with
the first swing.
Toguro Ani challenges the three remaining members of the Gorenja Team to fight together against him. The three multiply in several copies of themselves and surround Ani, jumping and running around him, trying to deceit him. But Ani projects several spears (made of his own flesh) from his body, impaling the tree.
One of them, the girl, is dead already. Ani says he'll spare one of the other two. One begs for mercy, the other promises revenge. Ani kills the former.
He
tells the other that Karasu and Bui were defeated by the Toguro Brothers;
they had begged to be killed, but Otouto refused: "I don't think
the loser is entitled to give orders. We decide who lives
and who dies." Now both Bui and Karasu became a lot stronger, and
someday they might even be strong enough for revenge. "My brother
and I enjoy this kind of game," Ani continues. "But there's
a difference between my brother and me. I usually betray my promises."
And with that, he stretches his finger until it perforates the last adversary's
head. While Ani licks the blood on his finger, the victory of the Toguro
Team is announced.
Kurama
walks away, being mocked by the demons in the corridors. He wishes he
could regain his Youko aspect once more to withstand the confront against
the Toguro Team.
Bui and Karasu stand in his away; Karasu says that in two days all four will die. "Four?" Kurama frowns. "One of you dies today. Soon you'll find out which."
Bui punches the wall, distracting Kurama from Karasu, who appears behind
him, touching his neck and red hair. Kurama sweats, knowing what Karasu's
touch can do. Karasu advises him to take better care of his hair.
Kurama tries to hit him; Karasu jumps to stand beside Bui again. "You're
all brave fighters, but out of the five it's you who I love best. I take
great pleasure in killing the ones I love." As he and Bui leave,
Kurama trembles, knowing he can't beat Karasu in his present condition.
In the forest, Genkai meets Toguro Otouto, who comments on how she looks old now. "And you look the same," she counters, "just as you were fifty years ago. I never thought that after half a century I'd be again fighting with you, who once I called my friend." He remembers how beautiful she used to be and asks if she hid her face behind a mask to conceal her aged features. Genkai says that many demons would try to kill her if they knew who she was.
Otouto then asks her if she passed on the Leiko-Hadou-Ken doctrine; she confirms it, saying that Yusuke has it now. "Good," he exclaims. "Now you're useless to me."
He starts transforming his body and summoning his energy. In the hotel, Yusuke wakes up, aware of Toguro's ki. He runs out of the room, leaving a perplexed Kuwabara calling after him. Urameshi leaves the hotel and runs towards the forest.
"I can't stand seeing you old like this," says Otouto to Genkai.
"I can't stand looking at you either," Genkai retorts. "You sold your soul to preserve your youth, beauty and strength."
"One of us has to die then," he concludes.
