Yusuke sits cross-legged just outside the cave where Genkai passed the Leiko-Hadou-Ken to him the day before. "If she hadn’t given me her energy, she wouldn’t have lost to Toguro," he thinks bitterly.

Koenma and George watch him from a distance. Botan walks towards them looking very sad; Koenma soothes her: "You knew long ago that Genkai would leave us when she found her successor. Her destiny was decided already."

Hiei lands beside the crater produced by Toguro during the fight with Genkai. The Jagan starts to glow and he jumps high in the air, letting his ki flow to his right arm. He punches the ground, forming another crater. "By tomorrow I'll be able to summon the Black Dragon," he says to himself. But as he compares the two craters, he sees that his is only about one third of Toguro's in diameter. He takes off the bandages wrapping his right arm.

In another part of the forest, Kurama remembers his encounter with Karasu and fears he won't be able to defeat the dark-haired youkai, who's faster and stronger. Kuwabara comes running and calling his name. "At last I found you! Have you seen Urameshi?"

Kurama says he didn't. Kuwabara tells him that Yusuke ran out of their bedroom in the hotel as soon as he woke up, without giving any explanation; "And to make things worse, Baasan went out saying she had an important thing to do and didn't come back yet."

Kurama remembers Karasu's prediction: "One of you dies today. Soon you'll find out which." The redhead realizes that the ki he felt vanishing was Genkai's; but he doesn't say anything to Kuwabara.

A blonde man with several healing bandages covering his body approaches them, introducing himself as the beautiful Martial Arts senshi Suzuki! Kuwabara remembers the arrogant clown who defeated him in the semifinals, alright. "Never forget to add "beautiful" when you say my name!" demands Suzuki.

Kuwabara and Kurama grimace and Suzuki smiles, more humbly: "But that doesn't mean anything anymore." His defeat ruined most of his proud attitude.

He offers them two objects: a small jar with a fruit floating on a red liquid — the Fruit of Past Lives — and a katana handle — the Experimental Sword. The first is the source of the mist Uraurashima used to turn Kurama into his Youko aspect. Suzuki says that the effects take longer if Kurama drinks the potion in liquid form. The Experimental Sword absorbs the energy of its carrier. Startled, Kuwabara flings the handle back to Suzuki as if it was a snake.

But Suzuki explains that the energy is used to form the blade, and flings the handle back to him. Kuwabara holds it with a suspicious frown. Suzuki warns that the two objects are experimental and it's impossible to predict the consequences of their use.

Kurama asks why he's giving then the objects. "One day I fought against Toguro," tells the blonde. "I was terrified with the 30% of power he used to beat me. Then I'd have even licked his feet to beg for my life. He told me, very upset, "I don't have the heart to kill you, seeing you like this, creeping on the ground like a worm. You're nothing but trash." After that I practiced and learned a lot, changed my name and appearance and joined the Uraotogi Team, but ended up defeated by you. I'm not doing this for revenge. I just wanna believe that there's someone who can beat Toguro. Now I learned I'm not that someone. I want to believe that someone will come to break Toguro's superiority."

Yusuke is still sitting by the cave's entrance and Koenma, in his teen form, tries to comfort him. Yusuke says that he could have saved Genkai if he had come sooner. Koenma says that's stupid. Pissed off, Yusuke grabs the Reikai Prince by the collar: "So you think this is all stupid?!"

"I understand how you feel, but calm down," Koenma soothes him. "Even if you had come sooner, you really think you could have interfered in the battle of life and death between them? Can't you understand there was nothing you could do?"

Yusuke is trembling. "Let me go, Yusuke," asks Koenma. Yusuke shoves him free and returns to his place next to the cave, crying. Koenma stays near him, thinking, "Genkai's doctrine can soothe this pain. Be brave, Yusuke."

Sakyo and the other sponsors of the Dark Tournament watch Juri announcing the finals for the next day on the television. The sponsors compliment Sakyo for his imminent victory, commenting on the huge sum of money he'll certainly receive if the Toguro Team wins. One of them reminds him that in a previous Tournament, the sponsor of the winner team became dictator of a certain country. They ask Sakyo to reveal what he plans to do with all that money.

"I'm going to build a tunnel between Ningenkai and Makai," he states. He intends, by summing the money he got from the previous tournament and the current one, to open a passage large enough so even the most powerful demons will be able to cross. To his thinking, the presence of evil mighty demons will make life in Ningenkai more fun.

The other sponsors are terrified, call him a madman. They open a secret door and a bunch of feral demons enter the room. Sakyo remains calm and impassive; Toguro Otouto steps out of his hiding and slaughters them all, humans and demons, in a few seconds. Blood splashes everywhere.

Sakyo drinks a glass of wine and asks Toguro what he thinks of his plan; Toguro says he'll help him. "I became too strong for Ningenkai and with my current ki level I can't reach Makai through the narrow curves formed by nature. If I defeat Urameshi, only in the Demon World I'll find an opponent to match my strength." Sakyo is content with the answer and proposes a toast. But Toguro doesn't drink and asks for an orange juice.

It's night. Yusuke thinks he's seeing Genkai coming out of the cave, but when he calls her name she vanishes.

Koenma finds him there, still depressed, and tells him that Genkai sent him a message: "She said she suffered a lot for having such a troublesome pupil, so she doesn't want you to look for her. Her last recommendation was: she wants you to win no matter what."

Yusuke curses, then cries... then wipes his tears angrily and shoots a mighty Reigan to the skies: "This is my answer, Baasan!" Kuwabara, Kurama, Hiei, Suzuki, Toguro, Sakyo, Botan and Puu see in awe as the bright bluish column of energy rise to the firmament. "You think she got my message?" Yusuke asks Koenma.

"I'm sure she did," says Koenma. Yusuke smiles.
