Batalha
(Beginning of the Turbulent Battle)
In the forest at night, Kuwabara sits cross-legged on the grass under the full moon, staring cautiously at the sword handle Suzuki gave him, remembering the clown's words: "The reiki is different in each person, like the fingertips and the voice." The experimental sword's performance depends on the ki of its owner.
Kuwabara
tentatively pats the handle with a long stick, getting no reaction. Impatient,
he yells and grabs the handle and summons the blade, feeling his energy
being sucked by the sword. He falls on his knees and stares in shock at
his new sword.
He runs to the hotel's marquee, screaming, "Urameshi, take a look at my secret weapon!" But there's no light coming from their bedroom's window. Looking for Yusuke, he walks towards the rocks next to the beach, where he can see a blue light. There he finds Yusuke surrounded by an impressive ki aura that shakes the ground with its power. Some rocks break loose and fall into the sea. Kuwabara loses his balance and slips down to the rock where Yusuke stands.
"What the hell is this energy he's testing?" Kazuma wonders silently. Yusuke asks what Kuwabara's doing there, and receives a very Kuwabarish presentation of "the unique reiki dynamic strong sword of the world."
Hiei appears, his eyes shining red: "Jerk. Will you quit this blabbering?" Kuwabara is annoyed at another of Hiei's abrupt entrances, but gapes when he sees the state of the youkai's right arm: without the bandages, it's covered with ugly bruises and blood. At Kazuma's question about what caused the wounds, Hiei says simply: "It wasn't obeying me anymore, so I had to maul it a little." Kuwabara laughs nervously, thinking Hiei is becoming insane.
"Well,
now the only one missing here is Kurama," Kazuma comments, and immediately
jumps when he notices the redhead standing right behind him. "I've been
here for quite a while already," says Kurama.
Kuwabara then asks about Genkai. The others fall silent. Yusuke murmurs merely that Genkai won't be with them today. He still doesn't believe in the shihan's death.
The sun rises. The four boys leave the hotel and walk confidently to the stadium. Botan sees their depart from her window, crying. Koenma (in the toddler form) enters the room with George, asking her if she had any problem taking Genkai away. Botan says that that was the worst task she had to do as a ferrygirl. Koenma is annoyed at her tears: "I warned you about it beforehand, remember?" He says Genkai left in peace, tranquil after passing her powers to Yusuke.
George reminds him of the hour, and Koenma leaves in a hurry, saying he has an important work to do. Botan frowns, commenting that Koenma is never that serious about work.
In
front of the stadium, Juri works as a reporter, showing the incredibly
long line of demons waiting to enter and see the finals of the Dark Tournament.
In the anteroom to the arena, Kurama asks Yusuke who's gonna replace Genkai.
Yusuke says the substitute is on his way. Kuwabara asks what happened
to her; Hiei snorts: "I don't believe it. This poor fellow is too naïve."
But before Kuwabara has the chance to pick a fight with Hiei, Juri announces
the Urameshi Team and the gate to the arena opens.
The
four enter under the hoot of the public. Then enters the Toguro Team.
Karasu is the last to enter, and his gaze is fixed on Kurama, who winces.
The public applauds the Toguro Team, until they notice both teams have
only four members.
Juri reads the rules for the finals: "The fights must be one-to-one, five fights on the whole. The team that obtains three victories is the winner. If no member of the teams has died, they must present five senshis."
Outside the stadium, a gatekeeper doesn't let the demons without tickets in. Botan apologizes to Yukina, Keiko and Shizuru: she didn't buy the tickets in advance, now they can't go in. Shizuru is ready to enter the hard way. Keiko pales, but Yukina is determinate to enter too.
However, the ticket scalper who tried to sell tickets to Koenma on the first day of the Tournament appears, flirting with the girls. He offers them tickets for a huge amount of money, but Shizuru snatches the tickets away from him and hides them behind her back, claiming those tickets are hers. Winking among themselves, the other girls confirm the tickets are Shizuru's. The scalper protests, but Shizuru says the tickets are nominal; they all show him the tickets with their names quickly written on them (with lipstick, I think). The girls thank him and enter the stadium, while the scalper groans under the mockery of the demons that watched the whole scene.
Inside,
Juri demands the presentation of the fifth member of each team. Sakyo
enters the arena. The girls comment that he's the Toguro Team's sponsor.
Surprised, Shizuru remembers when she first met him - when he saved her
from a bunch of demons. Sakyo says he's the fifth member but won't fight,
only watch closely the death of the Urameshi Team.
Juri is about to point the Toguro Team winner by default, when the fifth member of the Urameshi Team finally shows up: Koenma. "So that was the important work he was taking about," Botan commented. George is deeply moved by his master's bravery, until Koenma shows his secret weapon: rockets attached to his back under the red cloak. He won't fight either, but has everything prepared to a quick exit if things get bad. Kuwabara falls back and calls him a coward, Hiei sweatdrops, George moans: "This is lamentable."
Juri says the substitution can't be accepted if Genkai is still alive. Yusuke is tense, starts to say something, but Sakyo states that his team has no objections to Koenma's presence.
Karasu
steps into the battlefield, looks at Kurama and points his index finger
to his own head, saying, "BANG!" Kuwabara says he'll face him, but Kurama
doesn't let him: "Wait a minute. I'll go." Juri announces the first match
of the finals: Karasu versus Kurama.
