Episode 056 - A Última Cartada de Kurama
(Kurama's Last Card)

BANG!!!This episode starts showing scenes from the previous one: Karasu's flying bombs and the attack of Kurama's Makai Mimosa. When Karasu throws the demonic grenade, Kurama warns that the Mimosa has feelings, so it's not wise to upset it: "A poorly made attack won't beat it, Karasu... BANG!"

Karasu is covered by the plant's sharp-teethed flowers. His mask falls down. In a few moments Karasu completely vanishes under the munching flowers that rise far over the ground. Kurama snorts: "So easy, it ended before I expected. I should have played a little more with him, what a pity..."

Kuwabara and Yusuke cheer for Kurama's quick victory. Hiei says nothing. Koenma comments on the Youko's amazing strength, but his voice comes out as the toddler's. Suddenly his head makes puff and is replaced by the toddler's (with the hat). George shouts from the audience: "Koenma-sama! You shifted back to normal!" Abashed, Koenma pulls his hat down to cover his head and shake it a little; when he pulls it off, he's back with the teen's face.

The girls also cheer; Shizuru comments, "Kurama is awesome; Kazu is not a match for him." Kurama starts to leave the battlefield as Koto urges Juri (still in shock after the Mimosa's appearance) to proclaim the end of the fight. Blinking the dizziness away, Juri starts to announce the winner, but...

The branches of the Mimosa curve down, bringing the cocoon of flowers near the ground. Kurama senses the change and stops walking. There's a big explosion, the Mimosa is destroyed, and amid the black smoke appears Karasu. Everyone stares in shock. Juri apologizes to the public, says the fight will go on, and leaps out of the battlefield.

Karasu: "I love you, Kurama. More and more I wanna kill you." The Toguro brothers notice that Karasu's mask is gone. Otouto advises Sakyo to step back.

Karasu opens his mouth and a green ki aura surrounds his body; his hair turns blonde. Kuwabara is puzzled; Hiei explains what's happening: "The fire is formed from the mouth to inside the body, and the body is sort of a storage of explosives. The hands probably ignite the explosion. Be careful, we might be hit."

Karasu summons his energy, forming a big sphere of green light between his hands. Toguro Otouto tells Sakyo to protect himself - the human steps behind Otouto's bulky body, but keeps watching the fight with interest.

The sphere rises in the air, carrying Karasu inside; suddenly he plummets fast in Kurama's direction. There's a huge explosion. Part of the walls of the stadium collapses, killing hundreds of demons in the audience and throwing the Urameshi Team back. The girls, sitting safely in the opposite side of the stadium, gaze in terror at the hole in the ceiling.

Yusuke shoves some fallen rocks away and stands up from amid the debris, then checks his teammates: Koenma and Kuwabara are lying on the rocks, groggy but unharmed, while Hiei is standing impassively on the rail surrounding the arena. They wonder about Kurama.

Kurama survives the explosion, but he's back to his human aspect - a screencap made by JacqueSo does Koto. She looks at the battlefield and can only see Karasu standing next to a giant cloud of black smoke, laughing. But the next moment she sees Kurama, back in his human body, coming from under the debris outside the battlefield. He's wounded and has difficulties to stand.

Yusuke gasps, "Kurama! He's back to normal! The potion's effect ran out!"

"It can't be!" exclaims Kuwabara. "Only five or six minutes have passed. He should be able to keep the Youko form for fifteen minutes!" Kurama is equally surprised with the potion's failure.

Karasu tells Kurama to pray for a peaceful death. Kurama tries to summon his Rosewhip with trembling hands, but the petals of the rose burst into a crimson smoke. Karasu mocks him: "You lost all your energy? Is there nothing left to turn the plants in weapons? And you couldn't see my energy growing. What a shame... Acknowledge your defeat and you'll die without any suffering."

Furious, Kurama leaps back to the battlefield and runs to Karasu, wrestling with him. Koto explains that it's the first time Kurama fights hand-to-hand since the beginning of the Tournament. Hiei frowns: "I'm positive, Kurama has some plan in mind."

Karasu, dodging: "Have you gone insane from being wounded? Don't get close or it will be your death." Kurama manages to hit Karasu's chest.

"I wish I could say it was a great attack," says Karasu, "but..." He picks a seed from the wound in his chest. "Was this your goal? The Death Plant?"

Yusuke and Kuwabara lament that the trick Kurama used to beat Roto didn't work this time. Koenma: "Is there no way out?"

Gotcha!Karasu, exploding the seed: "The one who manages to wound me twice deserves a compliment." Metal claws break through the ground and grasp Kurama's left foot - a tiny talking bomb attached to it giggles, "Now I gotcha!" Karasu introduces his Underground Bomb just before it explodes, injuring Kurama's leg badly.

The redhead manages to stand, but Yusuke warns him not to move: he's totally surrounded by green light sphere bombs. "I could explode you quickly," says Karasu, "but I won't." He makes a gesture and the bombs touch Kurama's body and explode, one by one. Kurama screams in pain, blood gushing from the wounds.

Keiko looks away, "I can't see this anymore." Shizuru comments that Karasu is a cold guy: "Why doesn't he kill Kurama once for all?" With tear-brimming eyes, Botan says Kurama won't die in the hands of Toguro's teammate. Toguro Otouto smiles, saying Karasu is having a lot of fun with this match. Sakyo lights a cigarette, looking forward the pleasure of watching the end of the fight.

Hit by Karasu's bombs - a screencap by JacqueKurama falls on his knees, bleeding profusely. Karasu says he'd like to spend more time with him, so he's gonna give Kurama a present: "I won't destroy this beautiful face of yours."

Staggering, Kurama gets on his feet, thinking, "You still didn't notice where I'm trying to hit - in your heart, where the blood is running. Now all I have to do is to summon the Bloodsucker Plant, a demon that loves blood. You don't know me yet. Even in this ragged condition I still can summon my plants... But... in exchange for death."

Karasu explodes the remaining bombs on Kurama's body. The Urameshi Team witness in horror as Kurama falls on the ground, covered in blood.

The public demands that Karasu kill Kurama. Some youkais even grab Koto's microphone to cheer for Karasu. Koto tries to get the mike back and urges Juri to start the countdown. Juri answers readily.

Kurama makes an effort to get on his knees. "I'm gonna use the last ki left in me," he thinks. "My last card!"

Kurama's last card"No need for a countdown," says Karasu. "I'm gonna finish this now! DIE!!!"

"You'll die with me," thinks Kurama.

Karasu and the Bloodsucker Plant - a screencap by JacqueKarasu's green light strike is almost reaching Kurama when a purple ki aura surrounds the redhead, forming the Bloodsucker Plant, which jumps towards the bloody wound in Karasu's chest. Kurama falls unconscious while the plant feeds on Karasu's blood, killing him.

The public is mute. Yusuke and Kuwabara scream Kurama's name. The girls fear Kurama is dead.

But to his own surprise, he's not: "I'm alive... But how? I don't believe it. The energy is growing..." He stands up. Hiei smiles: "Hn."

Kurama: "I know. The potion is still working. The power of the Youko is returning to my body..."

The girls celebrate, so do Yusuke and Kuwabara. "Kurama won!" shouts Kazuma. Juri looks confused. The Bloodsucker Plant bloomed into an exquisite red flower.
