059 - A Estranha Sombra de Toguro
(Toguro's Strange Shadow)
Half
the stadium is destroyed; the battlefield is nothing but a large heap
of rocks. "And the responsible for this mess is sound asleep," Yusuke
smirks at Hiei, who's still passed out on the ground. There's no way the
fights can proceed on the ruined battlefield.
Kurama tries to reassure Yusuke, saying that he's ready to fight anyway, but he senses Toguro Ani's dark ki and shudders. Koto announces a short intermission, so the battlefield can be repaired. George approaches her and asks if she needs an assistant. Before she can react, the oni grabs the microphone and starts singing. Koenma is upset and calls George a useless creature. "And what about you?" asks Yusuke, in reference to Koenma's previous statement that he isn't there to fight but only to complete the team. Koenma sweatdrops.
Toguro Ani appears all of a sudden next to Kuwabara: "Your perception skills are really impressive. Did you sense already that you're going to die?" Ani suggests that Kuwabara should seize the intermission, his last moments of life.
The Urameshi Team waits in the resting room. Hiei was laid on a bed and is still unconscious. Kuwabara looks out the window, nervous about Ani's threat. He says he wishes Genkai were there. Yusuke winces but doesn't say a thing.
Kuwabara asks if Koenma wouldn't like to fight Ani in his place; the Prince of Reikai shows the rockets under his cloak - any sign of danger and he'll be out of there in a flash.
The girls arrive and Shizuru teases her younger brother, but she instantly notices that he's genuinely anxious about the next fight. She covers up for him though, so no one would perceive his fear. Yukina offers him some vitamins, but her presence is enough for Kazuma to perk up - and start the usual Kuwabarish boast and courting that bring sweatdrops to everyone's brows.
They
start hearing noises. Running outside, Yusuke, Kuwabara and Koenma see
Toguro Otouto carrying the battlefield of the other stadium on his back.
The thumping sounds are each of his steps under the heavy burden. The
demonstration shakes Kuwabara's confidence again.
Hiei wakes up after six hours, disoriented and worried about what might have happened while he was asleep. Kurama, who was reading a book beside him, tells him about the replacement of the battlefield. Through the speakers they hear Juri announcing the continuation of the fights, so they return to the arena, where Yusuke and Kuwabara are already waiting.
Kuwabara comments about Genkai's absence again, receiving a not so friendly remark from Hiei about his intelligence. Kurama secretly asks Yusuke why he's not telling Kuwabara the truth about Genkai; Yusuke doesn't answer.
Ani
and Kuwabara step on the battlefield. Kuwabara uses the Experimental Sword,
which absorbs his energy not only to form a powerful blade, but also a
shield around him. He attacks.
Ani doesn't move, but some cracks appear on the stone he's stepping on. The blade cuts his head and chest in half, but he remains standing and impassive, torn open.
Juri is about to declare Kuwabara the winner when Ani's hand appears from the ground behind Kuwabara, stretching the fingers to cut through Kazuma's trunk like spears. No one understands how that happened. Kazuma falls and drops the sword.
Ani
has total control over his own flesh. He can shapeshift as will, and also
move his inner organs to different parts of his body. To attack Kuwabara,
he cut through the ground like a drill and stretched until he appeared
in the other side. He mocks Kuwabara, saying Genkai won't be able to rest
in peace seeing her wimpy pupil losing the fight. At Kuwabara's surprise,
Ani confirms it: "Genkai is dead. Murdered."
In shock, Kazuma remembers Yusuke and Hiei's previous comments about Genkai's absence and realizes that everyone but him knew about her death. Ani stretches his fingers again and spears Kuwabara's chest around his heart. All he has to do to kill Kazuma is to snatch the heart, but he doesn't do it. He lets him go and starts telling Genkai's story, using his hands to form a puppet with the shape of the shihan as a young girl.
"I'm gonna tell you this old story about two youngsters: the girl was called Genkai and her beauty was unrivaled, and the boy's name was Toguro, my younger brother. They were partners in the Martial Arts. Time passed and she grew old and ugly." The puppet becomes old, illustrating Ani's story. Otouto tells him to shut up, but he continues.
"The boy, on the other hand, borrowed the evil powers to keep his youth. The woman, poor old creature, became jealous and challenged him to a fight. But things didn't go as she planned and she was the one who died!" Ani marks the last sentence by spearing his fingers through the puppet, drawing his own blood.
Yusuke protests, yelling that Genkai didn't fight moved by jealousy. Otouto isn't pleased with his brother's attitude either.
Enraged, Kuwabara stands up and flares his reiki. Ani tries to stab his heart, but this time his hand fails to perforate Kuwabara's flesh. "I won't forgive you," yells Kazuma, his energy bursting in form of hundreds of darts thrown against Ani, who has his arms and legs severed.
Juri
starts counting, but not even Koto doubts Kuwabara's victory. However,
Ani easily reforms his body; he says that only by being hit in the brain
or heart he can be killed, but with his powers he has no problem moving
these organs inside his body to avoid any lethal wounds.
Again Ani stretches his fingers, using them as spears to cut through Kazuma's back and raise him in the air, throwing him hard on the ground. Is there any way of defeating the immortal Toguro Ani?
