Inside
the Irima Cave, Koenma is tired and pessimistic. The tunnel to the Makai
is about to open, and hundreds of demons are just waiting to invade the
Human World. But Yusuke soothes Koenma: "It's too soon to give up."
From inside Itsuki's shadow creature, Kuwabara sees Yusuke's attitude with enthusiasm, but Kurama thinks Yusuke is planning to do exactly what Kuwabara did when they fought Toguro Otouto in the Dark Tournament.
Kuwabara remembers that episode, when he decided to sacrifice his own life so Yusuke, seeing his best friend's death, would be filled by rage and inspired to defeat Toguro. Kurama says Yusuke will do the same: he'll die, so his friends' hate will rise and destroy Sensui. Kuwabara is horrified, and yells at Yusuke not to do it.
Koenma tries to hold Yusuke back, but he's too weak to stand up. Yusuke refuses to give up: "I already told you that I don't care if the tunnel is going to open or if the demons are going to invade Ningenkai. I just wanna fight and settle this."
Kuwabara keeps yelling: "Urameshi, listen! If I sacrificed myself is because you're worthy of it. You don't need to do this! If you do this I'll never forgive you. I did that for you, Urameshi!"
In tears Kuwabara remembers their first fights. He was thrilled when, after their third or fourth battle, Yusuke finally memorized his name. Kuwabara's own gang advised him not to fight Yusuke since he would never win, but Kuwabara didn't want to hear about it: "I'm always being beaten, but when I fight him I feel great!"
At top of a building in Mushiori City, Shizuru has gloomy feelings about her brother.
Yusuke
calls Sensui to the fight, but for the first time Sensui is unsure of
himself. Itsuki is puzzled by his lover's indecision. Hiei and Kurama
challenge Itsuki to free them, so they all can fight against Sensui, but
Itsuki refuses, knowing their true intention: to run away, taking Yusuke
safely with them.
Mitarai reveals that Kuwabara has the power to cut through any barrier, using the same dimensional sword he used to defeat Mitarai's water creature. Kuwabara tries to summon it, but he can't control it yet. Itsuki urges Sensui to finish Urameshi at once. Sensui is ready: "Urameshi, the tunnel to Makai will open, and your death will be the opening ceremony."
Outside the cave, Genkai feels awful energies coming from within - Yusuke's, Sensui's and Kuwabara's, mixed up in a disorganized way.
Yusuke attacks: "It won't be long now. Soon something is going to happen." His friends watch helplessly as Yusuke is brutally beaten up by Sensui.
Kuwabara remembers everything he and Yusuke went through together, and his pain finally gives him enough strength to summon the dimensional sword. He cuts Itsuki's face with it - and consequently the shadow creature's - freeing himself, Hiei, Kurama and Mitarai. They all run towards Yusuke, who only smiles at them when he receives Sensui's final blow.
Outside
the cave, a powerful wind makes Genkai scream. In Mushiori City, Puu lies
lifeless in Keiko's arms. In the Irima Cave, Yusuke falls dead.
Genkai can't feel Yusuke's ki anymore. A piece of fence falls before her, forming a cross. At Reikai, Botan falls from her oar when she senses Yusuke's demise.
Kuwabara approaches the body and, hoping Urameshi is just mocking him, tells him to get up. He even blocks Yusuke's nose and mouth, expecting his friend to gasp for air. He only acknowledges Urameshi's death when he rests his ear on Yusuke's chest and fails to hear any heartbeat.
The cave slowly begins to collapse. Kuwabara, Kurama and Hiei are mournful, and enraged. Sitting on the TV set, Sensui sadly laments: "It's a pity, but the movie is over. I was so absorbed with the fight that I didn't even hear the end credits music. It's a beautiful music. It goes with Yusuke."
The tunnel to Makai is open.
Sensui: "You don't need to mourn over his death; you'll soon be all together. The true end begins now."
