The Rambler
Who is Morgan D. after all?
When you visit a website, do you ever wonder about the mind behind those words and graphics, the person behind those ideas, the heart behind those feelings, the secret life of the webmaster?
I confess I usually don't.
I mean, sometimes I see a cool Yu Yu Hakusho site and wonder how old the webmaster is... Sometimes I read a Card Captor Sakura fic and wonder if the writer saw the original version or the Nelvana dubbing of the anime... and this is as far as it goes. If I find an "About Me" link, I seldom click on it.
There are two reasons for my attitude. One, I'm really not that curious. Weird,
ne? But in fact, many people that know me in Real Life often gasp at my lack
of curiosity.
"What do you mean you don't know what he does for a living? You didn't ask?!"
Ahn... no, it didn't occur to me.
"You've been on ICQ with this person the whole month and you don't know if it's
a man or a woman?!" Nope, he/she didn't ask about me, so I didn't ask about
him/her either.
"How old is he? Where is he from? What are his political beliefs? How many siblings
does he have? What's his astrological sign?" ....... *shrugs*
Jeez, how should I know?!
The second reason is, Internet is THE place for anonymity. It's part of the game. You can meet somebody in a chat room that will tell you all about his/her life, but there's no guarantees about the truth in anything you're told. We all know stories about people that lie through their teeth in the web -- lie about gender, age, looks, sexual orientation, anything you can imagine.
In a way, the web is perfect for weird people like me. I can exchange mails for years, discussing everything there is to be discussed about anime, fanfiction and life in general, and never bothering to ask if I'm talking to a man or a woman. And strangely, it is perfectly possible to make true friends through the web by paying attention in what really matters -- people's ideas, feelings, spirits. Intimacy in Internet and in Real Life are completely different things. Some people get really hurt when they forget that.
I think I'm really lucky in my Virtual Life. *sends hugs to dear unknown friends of the whole world*
Ahn... but what was my point anyway? *sweatdrops*
Oh. The "About Me" link.
Like I said, I seldom click on them. But blogs and bedroom webcams wouldn't be so popular if everybody were like me. You will never see me writing a blog or putting up a webcam so people online can see me change my clothes. But an "About Me" link is pretty harmless, and I can't help being flattered by the curiosity that drove you to read this rambling so far.
So. Who's Morgan D. after all?
*grins* Mina Lightstar sometimes signs her mails with a tagline: "Yes, I'm Canadian. Yes, I'm from Quebec. Yes, I speak French. No, I'm not a separatist."
I suppose my tagline would be: "Yes, I'm South-American. Yes, I'm from Brazil. Yes, I speak Portuguese. No, I can't dance the samba." ^__^
I was born in March, 1973. Yeah, I'm that old. I'm a girl, 1,58 meters (5.184 feet) tall. My eyes are often the topic of discussion: are they brown or green? Apparently it depends on how the light hits on them. My chestnut hair is really long, currently past my hips, 1,02 meter (3.346 feet) long. It's still too short for my thinking though. I want it to grow until it reaches my knees. Why? *shrugs* Because I always wanted to try it. So when people start discussing Kurama or Yue's hair, excuse me... *ahem* I consider myself an authority on the subject. *makes stupidly arrogant pose*
I'm Pisces, ascendent is Taurus, Moon in Libra, Mercury retrograde in Pisces, Mars in Pisces, Venus in Capricorn, Jupiter in Aquarius, Saturn in Gemini, Neptune in Libra, Uranus in Sagittarius, Pluto in Libra. Chinese sign is the Ox. My birthday saint is supposedly Saint Joseph. I have no cabalistic angel determined by my birth date, coz I'm a so-called "Genius of Humankind" or something like that... *sweatdrops* That means I'm entitled to choose my angel, but I never got around to decide for one among all the 72 of them (apparently Yue isn't available). *smirks* That also means I'm supposed to have come to Earth with the magnanimous purpose of creating peace and harmony, and leading people towards the great Good. 0_o Honestly speaking, I advise you guys to ask directions from someone else.
I was Catholic for about two years, when I was a kid. But soon I realized that no institutionalized church holds exactly the same values and beliefs I do. I can't be considered an atheist or even an agnostic, but no, I don't have any official religion.
Politics? Well, it's hard to find a label. Being a "socialist", a "communist" or a "social democrat" means different things in different parts of the planet. I can tell you I'm not a right-winger though. And that I'm not happy with the path the world seems to be taking. But then, who is?
I'm a webdesigner. I've been studying singing since 1995, and I'm currently member of two wonderful choruses -- one formed by 15 women, the other by around 30 men and women. I'm a soprano, and I'd be so happy if I were good enough to sing Rossini's absurdly difficult arias... *sad sigh* We have to live with our limitations, I suppose.
And I'm a ficwriter, of course, since I was eleven years old. But let's leave my experience with Fanfiction for another rambling. All I will say here is that, officially, webdesign is my job, while singing and ficwriting are my hobbies. Rubbish. That's only because it's too hard to make money with music, and illegal to make money with fanfics. If there were such a thing as a professional ficwriter, I'd definitely be one.
I'm also currently writing a novel, original fiction. But I don't expect to finish it in less than a decade. Or two. And just as my fanfiction, I'm writing it in Portglish.
Portglish?! What's that?
*smiles* It's the subject of yet another rambling...
